NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM
The Corvette is a model of sports car launched on June 30, 1953 by the Chevrolet brand, a subsidiary of General Motors. While his first design is Harley Earl's work, he is the engineer Zora Akus-Duntown, who bears the title of "father" of the Corvette. The Corvette was the first serial car to own a fiberglass body. With unprecedented success, the model has declined over time in several generations (the 7 th generation was launched in 2014) with models listed from C 1 to C 7. These generations span the way C 1: 1953–1962; C 2: 1963–1967; C 3: 1968–82; C 4: 1984–1996; C 5: 1997–2004; C 6: 2005-2013. The first Corvette C 7 Stingray was auctioned on January 19, 2013. Still equipped with V 8 6.2 liters but with direct injection and 450 horses, it changes slightly in design compared to the previous model. Corvette's original logo represented the American flag intertwined with a flag containing Chevrolet badge. To pay tribute to the founder of the Swiss brand Louis Chevrolet (1878-1941). It was the Swiss flag that was chosen, with the fleur de liys. The American flag was quickly replaced by a checkerboard flag. For the seventh generation of Corvette, the design of cross-flags has taken a more angular look to rejuvenate its look and better suggest the speed. This is the fascinating story of this model, which America and the men who designed it have taught you, which is proposed to you here. The last part of the visit was devoted to the field collapse that occurred on June 12, 2014 and in which 6 models were swallowed up. The latter are now presented with the damage caused by their fall and the rubble. A visitor center at Bowling Green is located in the lobby and a cozy cafeteria is available to visitors. The Corvette factory is close to the museum but no longer visited.
For the small anecdote, if you see people inside one of the corvettes exposed at the boulevard level, it's the owner with the technician who tells him how his new toy works. The museum offers a delivery service and the corvettes are thus transported directly from the factory to the museum. The happy owners come to discover their gas with, in premium, a VIP reception which includes access to the museum and a meal in the Diner, among others. History to make this day particularly memorable.
For real fans, a test circuit, the NCM Motorsports Park, is open to the public on the other side of Interstate. Possibility to opt for a tour, or to attend the races organized throughout the year. Check online programming.
