FRIENDSHIP CEMETERY

Created in 1849, this cemetery hosts approximately 16 000 tombs. Among the bodies buried, those of soldiers who participated in the various wars, from the American Revolution to the Vietnam War. Since 1991, students in history at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science at the University of Mississippi Campus for Women in Columbus present every spring during the Columbus Pilgrimage "Tales from the Crypt": visitors discover the lueurs cemetery of candles and stop listening to the monologues of costumed students before the graves of those they tell the story.
