EDWARD HOPPER HOUSE MUSEUM & STUDY CENTER
It was in this pretty two-storey residence that the painter Edward Hopper was born in 1882, to whom we owe in particular the famous Nighthawks painting painted in 1942. In the Greek Revival style, the house was built in 1858 by the artist's grandfather. He lived there until 1910, when he settled permanently in Manhattan, and continued to go there throughout his life to visit his sister Marion. When she died in 1965, two years before Edward's death, the house was abandoned and became an art centre. The site now houses temporary exhibitions and has a gallery dedicated to Edward Hopper and his work. The house has a garden in which sculptures are exhibited that change regularly.
