NIAGARA FALLS UNDERGROUND RAILROAD HERITAGE CENTER
Opened in 2018, this museum, housed in a building adjacent to the railway station, reveals a less well-known aspect of the region that served as a gateway to the Underground Railroad. With the help of abolitionists, the escaped slaves travelled up the Niagara River to Canada across Lake Ontario in the 1850s. A plaque marked Underground Railroad River Crossing has been installed near the river. In this museum, you will discover the testimonies of abolitionists from the region and former slaves who managed to win their freedom.
