DELTA EBRE PORT

The town of La Ràpita, located in the province of Tarragona in Spain, is an interesting destination to visit. Founded around a small Moorish fortress, the town was the abortive project of King Charles III of Spain to build a major Mediterranean port. Although the project was never realized, traces of this ambition can still be seen today in La Ràpita's urban structure, notably in the Carles III square. This square would have been the elegant center of the town, surrounded by single-storey houses forming a crescent shape overlooking the square. Little remains of this project, but you can still see the columns of the Laureano house, as well as restored fountains and porches. Another interesting place to visit is the Musée de la Mer de l'Ebre, which showcases the skills and techniques of fishing and navigation, highlighting the importance of the sea to the people of La Ràpita. The museum describes in detail the links between the town and the sea, with displays of objects related to navigation, boat building and the equipment used for different fishing techniques. The museum also features an exhibition on marine ecosystems and a section devoted to the history of the town. The museum is housed in the historic Les Casotes building, built in the 19th century by the Real Compañía de Canalitzación del Ebro. The building is surrounded by ancient locks and small canals, making it an open-air museum in its own right. The garden, with its eucalyptus and palm trees, offers a typical Mediterranean atmosphere, characteristic of the gardens and farmhouses of the Ebro delta.
