PO' MONKEY'S
A joint jukeboxes (or attached jook) is a popular establishment at the beginning of the th century. Built in time of segregation, joints were often established on the outskirts of the cities in buildings made of boards and sheets. Places of music, dance, play and drink, they were intended for the meeting of plantation workers after days of hard work. These institutions contributed greatly to the spread of the blues. Po'Monkey's does not escape this definition. Opened in 1963 by Willie'Po'Monkey'Seaberry (1941-2016), the Po Monkey first enjoyed a great success with a local population until it was discovered in the 1990 s by tourists seeking authenticity and good music. The interior of this wooden down, located along a long road and in the middle of the fields, is a mixture of disparate tables and chairs, waxy tablecloths, candlelight, acrochées toys and posters around a billiard room and two restricted areas of consumption. Under the benevolent gaze of Willie, we listen to the blues, of course, and we have fun there, even though the traditional musicians sometimes place a DJ. If there is no evening available to enjoy the atmosphere, come to the day to take a picture of the place.
