PAŠILIŲ STUMBRYNAS
Pašilių stumbrynas is the European bison reserve and therefore a resettlement and reintegration centre in the wild. In 1854, there were no more bison in Lithuania. It was in 1969, with the importation of two Russian bison, that the reserve of 50 hectares was founded. Six others arrived in 1970 and two in 1972. In 1971, the first bison was born on the reserve. He was christened Giniris. Since then, bison born on the reserve have a name beginning with IM letters. Today, 34 bison live in the wild and are kept in the pens and can mysteriousness. The visit is friendly and ideal with children. It is possible to plant its tent, but there is no shower or restaurant. However, a picnic table is installed at the entrance to the reserve. If you do not have your own vehicle, the tourist office of Panevėžys organises excursions regularly.
By car. Join Krekenava, 28 km south of Panevėžys, on Route 195, towards Kėdainiai. At the entrance to the city, turn left, towards Ramygala. You go to a former cemetery with many round stones. Follow the road, which is no longer asphalted, across the forest. At the Stumbrynas sign, turn left. A few metres and it's in front of you.
By bus. The bus stops at Krekenava. You must then walk 5 good kilometres, following the indications above.
