Budget & Tips
Prices are generally very high on the luxury brands. On the other hand, most local and artisanal products are sold at very reasonable prices. Unless otherwise indicated, credit cards are accepted everywhere (including, sometimes, American Express)
It is also possible to pay for your purchases with the mobile application Carlo App, which supports local commerce while allowing you to generate 5% cashback, which you can then spend in another business in the Principality. Be careful, this application requires a very good Internet connection, which is not the case everywhere!
Sales
The Principality observes several sales periods:
From January 2 to February 15, then from July1
to August 15 for all businesses except those selling sporting goods.
From February 15th to March 31st and from July1st
to August 15th for shops selling sporting goods
What's very local
Most of the local and artisanal products are sold at the Condamine market and the Monte Carlo market. There are also a few stores (especially in the Old Town) that showcase local know-how.
Tourist traps
Since Monegasque commerce is very well regulated, you can visit local shops without fear of counterfeit or prohibited goods. Peddlers are rare, if not non-existent, in the Principality.
