A treasure of art and architecture, Monaco's sumptuous cathedral has hosted the Principality's greatest events.
This neo-Romanesque cathedral was built in 1875 with the white stones of La Turbie, on the site where the church of Saint Nicolas once stood. Inside, a magnificent altarpiece painted by Louis Bréa represents Saint Nicolas. The altar in white Carrara marble inlaid with mosaics gives a glimpse of the Pietà of the White Penitents. In the crypt, the tombs of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III are located in the left part of the transept. The choir organ was built in Italy in 1976.
