Founded in July 2013 following the liquidation of Air Malawi, national carrier Malawi Airlines (known as Malawian Airlines until September 2016) serves Lilongwe, Blantyre, Nairobi (Kenya), Johannesburg (South Africa), Lusaka (Zambia), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and Harare (Zimbabwe). In the coming months, the airline announces new non-stop flights to three destinations: Mozambique, Rwanda and Uganda. Ethiopian Airlines, which owns 49% of Malawi Airlines, now operates the carrier under a management contract.
