PUENTE CENTENARIO
The second bridge to span the canal and link the Americas, this 80 m-high, 1-km-long suspension structure was christened Centenario on November 3, 2003, to mark the Republic's centenary celebrations. Its inauguration by President Mireya Moscoso in 2004 (two weeks before the end of her term of office) gave rise to much controversy, not only because it was more expensive than expected, but also because the road links were non-existent! In 2005, the new president, Martin Torrijos, inaugurated it a second time... complete with access roads!
