MUSEU NACIONAL DE HISTORIA NATURAL
The origin of the National Museum of Natural History dates back to 1858. The wood, ores and agricultural products at the time had not been able to attract sufficient interest, and this first museum had quickly closed its doors. They were reopened in 1938 under the name of the Angola Museum. The National Museum of Natural History, now located in the city centre behind the Largo do Kinaxixi, was renamed and remodelled after independence. There are two main exhibition rooms with mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and insects, and a 250-seat auditorium for conferences. It hosts many schools for guided tours with screenings of films and slides on Angolan fauna and flora. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions.
