MUSEU NACIONAL DE HISTÓRIA MILITAR
The museum, completely renovated, was inaugurated on 4 April 2013, the day of the 11 th anniversary devoted to Peace and National Reconciliation, by the President of the Republic José Eduardo dos Santos with the motto «United, we defend peace and democracy». Until its closure for renovation, this museum was called the Armed forces museum.
Among the most impressive collections are the military vehicles (both camps) and the Rose Renault of Dr Agostinho Neto, the first Angolan president, during his exile in Congo-Brazzaville. The situation of the museum in a monument with a military vocation such as the S. Miguel fortress offers an exceptional character. The mass statues of Portuguese historical figures, such as Diogo Cão, Paulo Dias of Novais, Salvador Correia de Sá, Pedro Alexandrino da Cunha and Carvalho de Carvalho, are also set out in the court.
Beyond the military collections, the visit to the fortress offers spectacular views of the bay, the city and the island of Luanda. A "must"!
