CAPANDA DAM
With a height of 110 metres and 1 470 metres in length, the Capanda hydroelectric Dam, built on the river Kwanza, forms a lake of more than 150 km 2, with water in particular allowing the development of irrigation of agricultural land in the Malanje region.
This book, whose construction began in the 1980 s, in the midst of civil war, is the culmination of many years of effort and perseverance. The work was paralysed for long periods because of the fighting.
In 2014, the dam has a production capacity of 520 megawatts and thus contributes to the continuous improvement of energy supply to the capital and the north of the country, including the Malanje region.
