CAMBAMBE DAM
The Cambambe dam celebrated its 50 years in 2013. Inaugurated in 1963 by the former President of Portugal, Américo Tomás, his construction lasted four years (1958-1962). This hydroelectric power station has been supplying electricity to the capital Luanda since the end of December 1962. The strengthening of the dam and the construction of a second hydroelectric power plant, the work of which is under way, will increase the current production from 180 to 960 MW, thereby improving the flow of energy to the northern region of the country from 2015.
Without having access to the dam itself, it is nevertheless interesting to circulate within the site, especially for the architectural quality of some buildings, excellent examples of the modern current of the 1960 s. It is also surprising to discover the remains of several tanks on a road. War Memory.
