MISSÃO DA MUPA
The construction of this mission would have taken 40 years, from 1883 to 1923. A French father from Alsace would have initiated the project with two other missionaries. The objective was to create the first Catholic mission within the community of Ambos, southern African Bantu people, established in Namibia's north and south Angola and near Ondjiva where the king reigned. This king had accepted the establishment of this mission. But, at the death of the king, this founding father was murdered. The other two missionaries would have fled. They would have spent 40 years wandering in the region before settling in 1923 at the sites of the current mission in Mupa. Like the 40 years to arrive in promised land. This mission is one of the first of the province of the Kunene.
Holidays celebrated every year in July with a procession to the mount dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Carmo or Nossa Senhora do Monte Carmelo (Virgin Mary).
Thanks to Padre Jamba for his time and this narrative. He will be happy to welcome pilgrims and other visitors.
