Museum housed in a former prison, providing a better understanding of the history of the town of Silverton.
Silverton is worth a visit for its museums. The Silverton Historical Museum, located in the old prison, provides a better understanding of the town's history. The building, inaugurated as a prison in 1889, was used as a reformatory from 1930, then closed in 1942 to be inhabited for a few years before being abandoned. In 1966, the Broken Hill Historical Society took possession of it and transformed it into a museum. It is fascinating!
