Ancient Jain temple built in the century at Kidanganad (former name of Sultan Bathery) and still very well preserved today
This ancient Jain temple was built in the 13th century in Kidanganad (the former name of Sultan Bathery). It is the witness of the strong presence of a Jain community in Wayanad at the time of its construction. In the 18th century, it was invaded by Tipu Sultan who then established his armory, Battery in English, which gave its new name to the city. Today it is still very well preserved. It is commonly called Sultan Bathery Ancient Jain Temple by the locals.
