MOUNT YASUR
In the east of Tanna, Mount Yasur is physically imposing and is renowned as the easiest accessible volcano in the world. And for good reason, only a few minutes of walking are enough to reach the summit after being led to the access path. The show is constantly provided by its continuous activity, but it is obviously at sunset and at night that we take our eyes full. It is a must for all holidaymakers in Tanna and Vanuatu, from where one does not return completely indifferent as the experience is unique. Everyone will talk to you about it and it is easy to understand why, even if the price may seem a little high (it increases every year). To get there, it is essential to book a transfer with your accommodation, unless you are staying next door (at the Tree Top Lodge, for example), in which case you can walk there. Try to come at the end of the day to fully appreciate the show in all its aspects. The entrance would look almost like an amusement park today (a building was under construction at the time of our visit in May 2018). You buy your entrance, choose the sign bearing the name of the country from which you come and sit near the newly installed Nakamal. The tour begins with a speech and dances, before being driven to the summit in a 4x4 by the site staff, who ensure the safety of small groups of visitors. Remember to bring good shoes, warm clothes and something to cover your face against the smoke (some people even wear diving masks!). Observe the safety instructions to avoid accidents. Once back down, a small snack will be waiting for you. While we regret that this excursion has become more and more expensive over the years, it is still a unique experience and you will quickly want to go back up just as far as the top!
