The date of construction of this fortress is unknown. It is presumed to have fallen to the Teutonic Knights when they took possession of the nearby fortress of Montfort. It was subsequently destroyed by the Mamluk sultan Baibars in 1265. Most of the present-day remains date from the time of the Bedouin Sheikh Daher al-Omar, who ruled Galilee in the 1760s. From the top of the walls, you can enjoy beautiful views over the Galilee.
