NABI MUSA MOSQUE & MAQAM - TOMB OF THE PROPHET MOSES
This great pilgrimage site was built in 1269 by the Sultan mameluke Beibars. According to the Muslim tradition, he sits on the site where Moses was Buried (Nabi Musa means in Arabic "Prophet Moses"). Indeed, Muslims consider that one of the great prophets of Islam is not buried on Mount Nébo in Jordan, about 30 km east, but here. A local legend tells this about how Salahadin, when he liberated Jerusalem from Christians during the crusades, brought the remains of Moses on this side of the Jordan. Nabi Musa is also a Palestinian village with close to 400 people. The site offers beautiful views of the Judée desert. The road stretches over a few kilometres before ending at the gates of an Israeli military camp.
