ABBAYE NOTRE DAME DU PRÉ
Abbaye Notre-Dame du Pré offers guided tours to admire the tympanum and the nave with beautiful capitals.
In Donzy, le pré, 2 religious buildings (just a hundred meters apart) recall the commune's religious past. Notre-Dame du Pré Abbey (11th/12th centuries) is famous for its tympanum, a masterpiece of Romanesque art. It depicts the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child, the prophet Isaiah and a thurifer angel. Next door, the church of Saint-Martin houses numerous tombstones, including that of Françoise de la Rivière, lady-in-waiting to Queen Margaux, who died in 1606. Although the ruins are open to the public, the Tourist Office organizes regular tours.
