MASJID JAMI (MOSQUE OF SULTAN SYARIF ABDURRAHMAN)
The oldest mosque in Pontianak, with its unique architecture and mostly Belian construction, is well worth a visit.
Built at the same time as the sultan's palace, this is Pontianak's oldest mosque. The mosque, which can accommodate up to 1,500 worshippers, has a unique architecture and was built mainly of Belian (ironwood). Legend has it that the site of the palace and mosque is the result of cannon fire. The cannonball fired to strike down a ghost landed on the other side of the river and designated the site. A fish market is located nearby.
