Monument to the equator, the emblem of Pontianak, located in Khatulistiwa Park and marking the division between north and south.
Located in Khatulistiwa Park, the Equator Monument is Pontianak's landmark. Built in 1928 by a Dutch geographer, it marks the exact location of the division between north and south. An Indonesian architect built a new structure in 1938, retaining the original monument inside. The monument was then completely renovated in 1990, with the addition of a protective dome and a copy of the monument five times larger than the original.
