MASJID RAYA SABILAL MUHTADIN
A remarkable mosque with interesting architecture, this is the largest in the town of Banjarmasin, and well worth a visit.
The city's largest mosque is named after an 18th-century sheikh who Islamized the region. Inaugurated in 1981, it was built on the site of Fort Tatas, a former Dutch military dormitory on the island of Tatas. From the outside, the mosque's appearance is highly non-conformist and particularly interesting. Inside, it can accommodate up to 15,000 worshippers. Many traders set up shop in the gardens every Friday.
