Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery northwest of the former Joliet Ammunition Plant with several graves of soldiers.
This national cemetery covers 397 acres in the northwestern area of the former Joliet Ammunition Plant, about 10 miles south of Joliet. It is expected to eventually hold 400,000 graves. It is named for the 16th President of the United States, who was also the founder of national cemeteries with 14 national cemeteries established after the Civil War. The former president is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, the capital of Illinois.
