A short stretch of red-brick road that's on Auburn's Register of Historic Places.
On Highway 4 toward Auburn, about 4.6 miles from Chatham, turn right off the road onto Snell Road. This brief 1.5 mile stretch of red brick road, dating from the beginning of Route 66 (1926-1930), is on the register of historic places. Note, however, that at that time, Route 66 in this part of Illinois was merely a relay to Hwy-4, which was already fully paved between Chicago and St. Louis. Stop at the bridge in the first part of the section for a photo.
