MONTEZUMA CASTLE NATIONAL MONUMENT
One of the best preserved sites of Indian habitats, the ruins being sheltered from the rain and the sun
Forty miles south of Sedona, Montezuma Castle is one of the best preserved Native American settlements in the region. The site was settled by the Sinaguas, who occupied the site between the 12th and 14th centuries, before abandoning the area. The good state of conservation of the ruins is explained in part by their privileged location, sheltered from the rain and sun, as well as their early classification as a national monument (1906). Their multi-story construction is spectacular.
