LONDON BRIDGE
This 285 m stone bridge is today the second most important tourist attraction in Arizona, after the Grand Canyon.
This 285-meter stone bridge was built in London in the 1820s and opened in 1831. Put up for sale by the City in 1968, it was purchased for $2.5 million by California billionaire Robert McCulloch (1911-1977). Since there was no place to put the stone-by-stone bridge, a mile-long canal was dug and turned the peninsula facing Lake Havasu City into an island. Opened in 1971, the London Bridge is now Arizona's second most popular tourist attraction, after the Grand Canyon.
