The site was occupied from 1940 to 1955 by an Italian restaurant, Lucy and John's Café. After the establishment's demise in a fire, it was succeeded by The Magic Lamp Inn. The name and theme of the new establishment was chosen by lottery from the staff. Today, a beautifully lit Aladdin lamp at night still identifies the establishment. However, the interior is not the oriental style one might expect. In a very chic decor, it is great American classics that are now served.
