This building is one of the most remarkable castles of the Nivernais with its architectural style
Classified as a historic monument since 1930, Villemenant is one of the most remarkable châteaux in the Nivernais region. It is believed to have been built in the mid-14th century by Girard de Carroble, Chamberlain to the Duke of Nevers. A fortified castle during the Hundred Years' War, then a Renaissance château d'agrément, it witnessed the development of the steel industry in the 17th and 18th centuries in the cantons of Guérigny and Cosne-sur-Loire. It became part of Louis XVI's royal estate in 1781. Its architecture and interior layout have remained unchanged since then.
