Kargah Buddha is a Buddha figure carved into the rock, about 3 meters high. Gilgit was an important centre of Buddhism from the 3rd to the 11th century. Kargah Buddha dates from the 7th century. 400 metres upstream, a monastery and three stupas were discovered during excavations in 1931, during which a Sanskrit manuscript was also discovered. To see!
