KYKUIT, THE ROCKEFELLER ESTATE
John D. Rockefeller, patriarch of the family of the same name and the first billionaire of the contemporary era, had this residence built, the construction of which was completed in 1913. In a neoclassical style, it has four levels and eighty rooms. The facade was designed from rock extracted in the area, and bears the family seal. Four generations of Rockefellers lived there until the death of Nelson Rockefeller in 1979. During the guided tour, you will discover the beautiful furniture and art collection, enriched by its successive inhabitants, with 20th century works and a collection of ceramics from China and Europe. The gardens can also be visited. Their design was first entrusted to Frederick Law Olmsted, who drew the plans for Central Park, before John D. Rockefeller, dissatisfied with the work done, took back control of the garden design himself.
