WASHINGTON IRVING'S SUNNYSIDE
Born in New York, the writer Washington Irving lived for a long time in the region where his most famous story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, took place. He published it in 1820 in his collection The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. The picturesque appearance of this residence, with its various influences (Dutch colonial, Tudor Revival and Gothic Revival styles), reflects the author's universe rather well. The original building is old, dating back to 1690, but Irving, after buying it for a bite in 1835, had it completely renovated and added various extensions over the years. A guide in period costume leads the tour, which will give you the opportunity to see the desk the author was working on and some of his books.
