Located near the dam, the Selva Sannidhi Murugan Temple is considered the Kataragama of the North by the Hindus and is highly venerated. The colourful temple has an original architecture. The waters of the Thondaimanaru flow into the sea beyond the site. This waterway was dug under the supervision of Karunakara Thondaiman, who was sent here on behalf of the salt supply contracts by Kulatunka Colan, who ruled South India from 1070 to 1118.
