NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM
This museum was inaugurated on December 27, 2014, exactly one hundred and fifty years after the inauguration of the first line in Sri Lanka. It was in 1864 and the train that took to the tracks that day was carrying the Duke of Brabant, the future Leopold II, from Colombo to Ambepussa. Old locomotives, coaches, machines and various equipment are displayed in this museum which replaced the one in Colombo. From steam trains to diesel locomotives, from special wagons to the old-fashioned luxury of old private cars, this museum will appeal to children and rail lovers alike.
