Every year, the arrival of the marula is celebrated in eSwatini. Tastings, choreography and culture are part of the event.
Swazis celebrate the arrival of marula in late February or early March. This fruit is used to make amarula liqueur, which is very popular in the country. Thus, the Marula Festival is held every year in the Lubombo region. The king and queen mother taste the homemade drink that each family has prepared. This royal tasting is followed by the tasting of the people. The ceremony features more than 1,000 women in traditional dress dancing on the central esplanade to the rhythm of traditional songs. Not to be missed!
