LEWIS & CLARK INTERPRETIVE CENTER
The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center retraces the journey of these heroes and their makeshift companions who, at the request of President Jefferson, undertook the first land expedition across United States territory to the Pacific Ocean between 1804 and 1806. They reached their goal by arriving in this area of the mouth of the Columbia River in the winter of 1805; they established their base camp across the river at Fort Clatsop, near Astoria, Oregon. The centre offers an interactive exhibition, a biography of the expedition members, a film screening and a book and souvenir shop. Note the view of the wild and often raging sea. An exhibition recounts the many shipwrecks on the coast.
