CADDO LAKE STATE PARK
Caddo Lake is a set of bayous and swamps with impressive fauna and flora
Caddo Lake is a collection of bayous and swamps with impressive flora and fauna. Among the tall cypress trees and their mossy beards, you will see majestic herons, discreet egrets and alligators. It is a place where one comes to fish, and not only fish. Indeed, the alligator hunt takes place in September. It is typically done at night, and you will see flashlights in the distance that illuminate the silhouettes of the mystical trees: a somewhat macabre scene. That said, we recommend eating it because fried alligator is a local specialty and, we won't lie to you, it's very good. Many reptiles inhabit the place: frogs, toads, snakes, lizards ... camouflaging themselves in this mosaic of green flora. Otherwise, you can also go canoeing. You will have the opportunity to go through a relatively small stretch of water but where the atmosphere is unique. A truly magical place. A little further on, you will find a relatively large and much less calm waterway. The locals come there to do jet-skiing, boating... Beware of the relatively important traffic on weekends. As far as accommodation is concerned, bungalows are available for rent for those who would like to spend the night in the bayou. Just bring a good mosquito repellent for the night. They are everywhere and in number! Inside the park, campsites are also good solutions for RV, van or tent. For walkers, the trails are very short.
