MENAR-E ALI'S MINARET (MENAR-E ALI)
Ali's minaret passes to be the oldest of the 43 minarets in Ispahan, failing being the largest (it is only second by size). Erected in the xiith century, it dominates the city, from the top of its 51 m, and is located, unlike others, south of the mosque of Friday. The total absence of colors, earthquakes or mosaics contrasts with the richness of other religious buildings in Ispahan. And to counterbalance this voluntary sobriety, decorations are ensured by the combinations of cooked bricks that form geometric motifs dividing the minaret into three parts separated by fries and accentuating the illusion of slice. Note the finely opened balconies from where the muezzin appeals to prayer.
