GOBBO BRIDGE
The Gobbo Bridge with its 11 unequal arches is a symbol of the city
Symbol of the city, the Gobbo bridge, the "hunchbacked" bridge has 11 arches, unequal between them. It is also called Ponte del Diavolo in reference to a medieval legend: Saint Colomban met the devil who promised to build a bridge in one night in exchange for the first soul to cross it. The devil built the bridge and, to support the arches, he was helped by small demons of different sizes, hence its irregular structure. The next day, Saint Columban sent a dog to cross the bridge first. The devil, offended, returned to hell.
