ROCCA VISCONTEA
The Rocca Viscontea currently hosts a museum of medieval life
Built between 1342 and 1349 by Luchino Visconti on the foundations of a Roman building, this fortress had a defensive function. Built in brick and crowned with swallowtail battlements, it occupied a strategic position along the valley. Its keep was an excellent vantage point and, even today, it still provides a magnificent panoramic terrace with views of the Apennines and the surrounding countryside. Until the 1960s, the Rocca was also used as a prison. It currently houses a museum of medieval life.
