CASTELLO DI GROPPARELLO
Castles with their own ghosts that show up on stormy nights.
Dating back to the 8th century, the castle of Gropparello was donated by Charlemagne to the Bishop of Piacenza in the 9th century. Like all self-respecting castles, it has its own ghost that shows up on stormy nights. It is said to have been Lord Petrone da Cagnano who, in the 13th century, had his wife walled up in the cellars to punish her for betraying him. The castle is surrounded by a vast park, the Parco delle Fiabe, where children, dressed as ladies and knights, discover life in the Middle Ages and the creatures that populated its legends.
