My wife and I absolutely loved our recent stay at Bosque de Paz. As the name implies, the setting is peaceful and conducive to a rejuvenating few days. The biodiversity and enthusiasm for and knowledge about the wildlife among staff is a great benefit as well, which is complimented by great service and excellent food. The hummingbird and fruit bird feeders and array of forest trails are also a highlight!

This is a very special, 1,000-acre property in a beautiful part of CR that still hasn’t been fully discovered. I stayed at Bosque de Paz with my 14-yr-old son and my 16-yr-old nephew. Most of the guests were birders and they seemed very pleased. We were there for the walks and this is an area where the treks are epic. We’ve already experienced several adventures to spectacular waterfalls and around the Poas Volcano. And actually, the Bosque de Paz Reserve has several trails that can keep you trekking all day. They are well carved out, very smooth (apt for non-technical hikers), and they lead to a few different waterfalls and cascades that are very beautiful. And if you’re into cool water, definitely plan on an invigorating swim.

Rooms are basic but comfortable, and sleep quality is great… guests here really respect peace and quiet. The food is also basic, but tasty and authentic.

What a gem of a place. Sadly, our plans only put us here for one night. This had to be one of the most peaceful places I have ever stayed. The room was spacious, bed was comfortable, and water plenty hot for a good shower.
The grounds include an orchid garden that is almost beyond description. It felt like we had entered a different world. Then there are several trails that take you through the forest and along a river that are just enchanting.
Mario was our contact and he made sure our stay was perfect. He greeted us as we drove up, had our luggage taken to our room and took our food order for dinner. Dinner was optional (as in not included) and was beyond delicious. Well worth the price. Breakfast is included and was just as amazing.
There are several hummingbird feeders on the property that were always active. A couple of other bird feeding stations were set up for other species of birds and they were active as well.
The location, the food, Mario and his staff, fresh mountain air, clean cold drinking water, I can't say enough. I just hope we can find our way back soon for a few extra days.

We stayed two nights at Hotel Bosque de Paz at the beginning of June with rain in the afternoons. The dining hall served excellent “home cooking” style meals and had the best coffee. We were in Costa Rica for almost a month, I swear this place really did have the best coffee.

The lodge promotes the natural beauty of the forest to be the landscaping. The hummingbird feeders were great. So many hummingbirds. We saw a lot of birds and agouti at the fruit station adjacent to the dining hall. The property has undergone reforestation for the past 27 years and is now a biological reserve with a huge secondary cloud forest. Our host, Mario, led us on a guided birding tour on our first morning stay. There are well marked trails throughout the lodge grounds. We hiked a little later in the afternoon prior to the rain and again the next morning before breakfast.

Bosque de Paz is a very special place. It's close to San Jose but completely private and in nature. The trails are amazing, full of wildlife and birds and the staff is absolutely the best. Food is really good, the rooms are incredibly clean and comfortable and it's just incredibly peaceful. I brought 13 people here this year and everybody has fond memories of Bosque de Paz. I will certainly return to this magical place.

Incredible location! Incredible staff! Lots of incredible comments about this place. Staff were great! Food was excellent! Rooms were perfect! Loved the trails and feeder areas. Birds galore! Coatimundi, Agouti, and more were seen during our visit. Birders should be able to find many species. Mario, Maria, and all are treasures. Would go back if life finds us near them in the future.

Very nice breakfast. Fun view of the local animals. Staff is wonderful. The room is full of bugs and the door doesn’t shut. You can watch mosquitos come through the top and bottom of the door.

Wonderful people, Mr. Gonzales and his crew are really sweet and the place is very pleasant. You can watch hummingbirds and other beautiful birds right outside of your room also while enjoying your food. Very well maintained property, close to many waterfalls.

Lovely place. Rooms are only OK but if you're there for the room you're in the wrong place... The trails are good and scenic... The bird feeders draw a lot of different species of humming bird. The orchid garden is lovely and I saw 20 different flowering in Jan... Need to look close as many orchids are small.

The drive from San Jose is winding but worth it. The room in spacious. The bed is like a rock ????. The food is good as is the service. The grounds are lovely and the humming birds are delightful. Not a lot of orchids in flower but an unusual to me one.
