MONUMENT TO THE HEROES OF THE BATTLE OF THE GREENS
This metal sculpture, Les Héros de Vertières, representing six heroes (4 men and 2 women) from the Battle of Vertières - the final battle of Haitian troops against the French army, which took place on 18 November 1803, and which was decisive in the founding of the Haitian nation - was erected in 1953. Listed as a national heritage site since 1995, it was vandalized in May 2011: parts of the monument were stolen, including two sabres, one belonging to the statue of François Capois, also known as "Capois La Mort".
