A monastery with a guesthouse in a green and quiet setting, with a path for walks.
Founded in 1616 at Moulins in the Allier region, the monastery was restored after the French Revolution at La Charité-sur-Loire in 1818, then at Nevers in 1854. In 1908, the nuns went into exile in Belgium, returning to Nevers in 1935. In 1993, the Salesian community of Visitandines moved to Route des Saulaies, at the foot of a riverside hill. A 3.5 km footpath runs along the banks of the Loire in front of the monastery, making for pleasant strolls.
The Visitandines welcome young girls, ladies and nuns who want a few days of silence and prayer to take stock or strengthen their faith. They also welcome gentlemen and pilgrims from Santiago de Compostela. All retreatants can meet a nun if they wish. Books are available, and they can also request recordings of lectures to help them in their meditation.
