BAHUK LAKE
Go there and contact
Bahuk is a sacred lake for the Kalashes. It is located between the two picturesque valleys of Bumburet and Rumbur. This glacial lake with turquoise waters is planted at an altitude of 4,000 m in the middle of an amphitheatre of slender peaks. To the west, it offers a very beautiful view of the Tirich Mir. The Kalash believe that after death, their souls plunge into its clear waters. One legend says that this lake would be the resting place of the fairies, another tells that the mythical Barmanu (a yeti) would have made his home there. Framed by millenary cedars, its surroundings are used as pastures by shepherds in summer. A special trail has been developed for hikers. From Bumburet, the round trip takes five days.
