ROMITORIO DI SAN CERBONE
The most ancient place of worship on the island of Elba, surrounded by a beautiful chestnut grove near Marciana.
Surrounded by a beautiful chestnut grove, the hermitage of San Cerbone is located between the villages of Marciana and Poggio, on the northern slopes of Mount Capanne, at an altitude of 530 metres. It is the most ancient place of worship on the island of Elba, where Saint Cerbon, Bishop of Populonia, retired in 572, fleeing from the Lombards. To get there on foot: the CAI path no. 1 starts from the village square and leads to the hermitage. It is a good opportunity for a nice walk, even though the church is often closed, but you can always take a look through the window.
