FORTEZZA PISANA
A 12th century fortress with archaeological remains, weapons and documentation on falconry.
In spite of its location in the hinterland, relatively protected from pirate incursions, the town of Marciana did everything in its power to defend itself. Erected in the 12th century under the Pisan Republic, this fortress of 415 metres follows a rectangular plan consisting of 4 bastions. In the event of a siege, a spring ensured the supply of water. This work allowed the inhabitants to take refuge and fight against the invaders. The museum exhibits archaeological remains, medieval and Renaissance weapons, as well as documentation on falconry.
