ZECCA DI MARCIANA
Numismatic museum located in an old workshop where the coins were made, the "zecca", in Marciana.
The "zecca" (workshop where coins were made) of Marciana was built by the Ludovisi-Buoncompagni family, princes of Piombino, at the end of the 16th century. But originally, between the 4th and 1st century B.C., this huge cavity was in fact a monumental burial chamber with a dromos (corridor). Its plan is characteristic of Etruscan underground tombs. Opened in 2014, this museum houses a collection of coins(esposizione numismatica) minted during the Principality of Piombino between the 16th and 17th centuries.
